Holiday ❘ Family "Very pleasant and quiet hotel, especially after coming off a long stage on the Camino. Extremely helpful and kind staff and we basically had the entire breakfast buffet to ourselves. The rooms are definitely in a 70s-chic, but I thought it was fun! Our room had nicely carved wood furnishings and the bathroom was covered in pretty azulejos."

Wonderful Staff "Two friends and I were looking for an inexpensive pension in Barcelos and decided to stay here. The room was small and basic but very clean and comfortable. The location was good--near the big Thursday market and just a couple of blocks to the old town. The best part though were the friendly and helpful staff. My friend had an early morning train to catch. The afternoon before, the staff telephoned the train station for information, practically walked my friend to the station, and made sure she had all of the information. The following morning, the friendly proprietor, was up waiting for her and had written out a train schedule with details of her transfer to the metro in Porto in order to catch her flight. They were incredibly friendly. I'd stay here again."

A really quiet hotel in a quiet city "I think I have stayed in this hotel 10 times over the last 15 years and the best thing of it all is that nothing has changed. I had not been there for 4 years and it was still the same woman behind the counter. I asked her if they were busy and she said what I liked to hear "nothing is ever busy here"rnrnIt is a true 3-star hotel by all means. The rooms are a bit outdated but the bathrooms are in good quality. The wifi is free and mine worked really well even through the receptionist said it wouldn't be good. There is a nice pool - some rooms have a great view towards the castle. There is a great restaurant behind the neighboring gas station !rnrnBut best of all - it is a really quiet hotel and a quiet town !"

Nice hotel at a reasonable price "Nice and clean with air conditioning lovely large balcony which had the sun until late. Comfy bed and quiet would stay there again without doubt. Didn't have breakfast as we were on the camino and left early son can't comment."

It is well located to enable you to access many interesting places. The rooms was perfect for us and everywhere was extremely clean. The staff is understanding, very nice and we become good friends. Breakfast taken in the hotel was varied, fresh and refreshing, perfect for a successful day. I have in mind to visit again soon, maybe with my family. I recommend it sincerely."

Camino Portuguese accommodation "This is an cosy family owned and run hotel just off the main street of town. It is about 15 minutes walk from the train station. The price is modest for single accommodation which includes a buffet style breakfast. The owners are very client focussed and could not do more to assist. Everything is immaculately clean. I felt very much at home here.rnrnFor those considering the Portuguese way starting in Barcelos is a smart way to avoid the urban jungle between Porto and Braga. It's less than an hour by rail from Porto ( 6 hours from Lisbon depending on connections) and there's no better way to acclimatise yourself than wake up in a beautiful old medieval village to start your pilgrimage. Hotel Dom Nuno is here obviously willing in every way to assist visitors on their respective journeys."

Gracious, lovely hosts! "I stayed here needing some real comfort after having been hiking on the Camino Portugues (pilgrimage) for some days. The staff were so friendly and kind; went beyond the call of duty is just making my time there special. And the room was lovely and quiet, and in perfect location to attend the Thursday market. This is a family business; they understand customer service. Highly recommend!"

Best welcome "This hotel is comfortable and spotlessly clean. The Owners/Manager could not have given us a better welcome and could not have done more to help with our onward travel arrangements even taking us to the railway station, organising our next days travel for us and bringing us back to the hotel. Sadly we left much to early for the free breakfast but I am sure that it would have been excellent!"
